Twinning programme
The SPAMI Twinning Programme promotes cooperation and peer learning among Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance (SPAMIs) and other marine protected areas across the Mediterranean.
It aims to strengthen the capacities of site managers, encourage the exchange of experiences and best practices, and foster innovative approaches for more effective and participatory management of protected areas.
Through partnerships between sites, the programme supports sharing of technical and scientific knowledge, study visits, field-based initiatives, and networking.
- Exchange of experiences and best practices among protected area managers and staff;
- Study visits, training activities, and capacity-building initiatives;
- Support for development and improvement of management tools and strategies;
- Promotion of participatory governance and stakeholder engagement;
- Implementation of pilot actions and field-based activities;
- Development of cooperation networks and long-term partnerships between sites;
- Capitalization and dissemination of knowledge and lessons learned.

- Egadi Islands MPA (Italy) & Kneiss Islands (Tunisia),
- Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo MPA (Italy) & Habibas Islands (Algeria)
- Torre del Cerrano MPA (Italy) & Landscape Park Strunjan (Slovenia),
- Torre Guaceto MPA (Italy) & Karabarun-Sazan National Marine Park (Albania).

- Tyre Coast Nature Reserve (Lebanon)/Medes Islands Reserve (Spain); and

- Miramare MPA (Italy) & Palm Islands Nature Reserve (Lebanon),

- Penisola del Sinis – Isola di Mal di Ventre MPA (Italy) & Zembra and Zembretta National Park (Tunisia).

- Representatives from La Galite Archipelago (Tunisia) and the Al Hoceima National Park (Morocco) twinned with Miramare MPA (Italy)

Programme Beneficiaries
- Mediterranean coastal countries. Target groups include SPAMI managers, NGOs, and competent authorities responsible for MPAs.
